Shopping for Christmas presents is a joy in Falkirk town centre. The choice of shops, has got to be the finest outwith the cities, with dozens of major national names, rubbing shoulders with an outstanding selection of local speciality shops located throughout the 26 shopping streets in Falkirk town centre.

In the High Street, the Howgate and Callendar Square shopping centres there's a amazing choice of national names such as Marks and Spencer, Boots, BHS, Woolworths, Wallis, River Island, Next and TK Maxx that you'd expect in a town of Falkirk's calibre. However, particularly in the lead up to Christmas, Falkirk is one of those towns that is an absolute delight to explore 'off' High Street. Moments from the centre off the bustling High Street you'll find literally hundreds of smaller speciality shops in which you'll find a mind-boggling choice of gift ideas to suit every member of the family.

Between now and Christmas, many of Falkirk's stores both national and local will be staying open longer to provide extra shopping hours when you require it. On Thursday evenings and especially on Sundays, you'll find most of the stores open to give you more time to spend shopping at your convenience. Make a day of it and enjoy lunch in one of the town's many excellent cafes, bars or restaurants.

In fact, when you have found all the gifts you require, which won't be hard, Callendar House, which is only moments from Falkirk High Street is the most amazing place to visit at Christmas time. See the famous fully working Georgian kitchen and watch the costumed interpreters cook Festive food the way it was done generations ago and more importantly, taste the end results. Or take trip to Bo'ness, only 15 minutes or so from Falkirk and visit the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway, the home of steam trains in Scotland.

If you haven't shopped in Falkirk before, or haven't been for a while, parking and access isn't too difficult even at this time of year. Over and above the 5000 odd parking spaces right in the town centre, there is a superb free Park and Ride service running out of three locations. The Wrangler factory car park in Camelon, Falkirk Council's own Strategic Services car park in David's Loan, Bainsford and the Falkirk College car park on the Grangemouth Road provide excellent parking from which a regular free bus service will take you straight into the town centre.
